Your first lesson can be completely customized to your needs and goals.
If you are coming in wanting to learn to social dance, our experienced instructors will recommend 3-4 most popular social dances for you. You will become well rounded social dancer for any occasion and will allow you to dance to a variety of music.
If your goal is to learn the first dance for your wedding, we will have a short consultation about your vision, venue and selected songs before starting to learn the first moves.
If you are coming in to learn specific style or techniques for advanced dancing, your instructor will focus on just that.
At the end of your lesson we will give you all the information about how you can continue your dancing in a regular basis and tailor your lessons towards your specific needs. We have found that students that take private lessons combined with group classes and practice parties learn the fastest.
You can just drop in any of our group classes. Call us or check our online calendar for best times and days for classes suitable for your interest. Our studio does run beginner to intermediate group classes. Group class tuition is $20 per person per class or $150 for 10 group classes. You do not need a partner for private lessons or group classes.
Absolutely! We can custom choreograph your first dance to a song that you have specifically selected. We can even help suggest what dance any song may be best for. Every wedding couple is unique and we want to make sure we understand your vision, venue and personality to make the best suggestions.
Our private lessons and group classes are 40 minutes long.
Shoes are the single most important clothing item for any dancer. If you plan to become a serious, long-term dancer, then you will want to invest in ballroom dance shoes. We carry a rather large amount of inventory of various professional dance shoes at the studio. In the beginning, you will want shoes that allow you to glide around the dance floor. Suede or leather soles are best. If you don’t have leather soled shoes, then a pair of dress shoes will probably do. Avoid athletic shoes, as they tend to grip the dance floor, which could damage your knees or ankles. If you are preparing for your wedding dance, wear shoes most similar to what you intend to wear for the big day.
Most important, be sure that your shoes are secure on your feet. This goes for both men and ladies. You don’t want to trip over your feet, or have your shoes fly off in a turn. And ladies, be sure that your heel is secure as you spend so much time walking backward.
We tell our students that they need to be comfortable, keeping in mind that we are a professional organization. You need to wear clothes that you can move in comfortably, that are not too tight and don’t restrict movement. For men, a shirt and nice pants are preferred. Think “business casual”.
For women, something looser and flowing is best. Something that allows you to take large steps backward and forward, as you follow your partner’s lead. Tight skirts, or ultra miniskirts don’t allow freedom of movement, plus you don’t want to worry about your skirt rising too high. Also, be aware of sleeveless shirts or tank tops. With all the spinning and turning, the straps can slip off your shoulders, and some partners may be uncomfortable touching so much skin.
Lastly, please pay attention to personal hygiene. You will be dancing very closely, sometimes with multiple partners. Strong colognes or perfumes irritate some people. Keep mints available, and use them before you start getting in close dance holds.
No, you do not need a partner. We practice Pro-Am dancing here at the studio which means you will be dancing with a professional instructor in your lessons. In our group classes we usually rotate partners and we have pretty even amount of male and female students in our studio.
